BSI-SPHINX Partnership: Creation of the BSI-Lab

The Business Science Institute, an international structure of higher education, has the purpose of developing the Executive DBA (Doctorate in Business Administration) at an international scale and fostering the creation of knowledge by managers. For 30 years, Sphinx has maintained a privileged relationship with the world of teaching and research, and provides software specially adapted to the challenges in this sector. The Business Science Institute and the Sphinx have established a partnership targeted towards the doctoral students and data analysis: the BSI-Lab.

The objective of the BSI-Lab is to enable doctoral student-managers to take advantage of empirical sources by producing relevant results that meet the scientific requirements and enhance knowledge production.

The BSI-Lab addresses the relative isolation of doctoral student-managers during data analysis by putting them in touch with professors specialized in a particular technique, or former doctoral students with experiences they wish to share.

The BSI-Lab can relieve doctoral students-managers of the logistical and technical tasks for which they do not have time to train or they cannot properly implement. Thus, the Sphinx experts support the logistics of data collection or analysis.

BSI-Lab enables the emergence of a type of research distinguished by a certain methodological homogeneity (diversity in sources and processing) and a communication style (oriented towards action and understanding). The use of Sphinx as a key tool contributes to the process without excluding opportunities for other complementary tools.

What the BSI-Lab provides doctoral students

Free access to all solutions proposed by Sphinx: Déclic, Sphinx IQ2/Quali, Cloud Sphinx and Sphinx Online. They have access to these resources until their thesis defence. Access to methodological and technical advice from the professor in charge of the BSI-Lab, or from another "expert faculty member" is also planned. This advice is provided with the approval of the research supervisor, when the project of data collection is well defined or when the data have been collected and communicated.

The role of the BSI-Lab’s head

  • Being available to doctoral students.
  • Early interface with Sphinx Institute to establish an estimate for the data processing. Subsequently, the doctoral student deals directly with the expert at the Sphinx Institute.
  • Interface with the research supervisors.
  • Identification and mobilization of “professors expert in a technique” or of former students.
