Topic: The satisfaction of local partners in international alliances: The case of joint ventures in Algeria
This research is consistent with those carried out on strategic alliances focusing on developing countries. Based on a qualitative study of international joint ventures in Algeria, the main objective of our work is to identify the main factors explaining the satisfaction of the local partner involved in an international alliance. As part of this study, 13 qualitative interviews were conducted with business leaders and senior executives of companies and officials of state bodies in Algeria. Our results show that if the local partner acknowledges the significant contribution of the foreign partner in transferring managerial skills, the results are rather mixed in terms of technical skill transfer. Moreover, if the foreign partner's level of involvement, cultural distance, network openness, absorptive capacity, managerial skill level, regulatory constraints and bureaucracy are explanatory factors for the level of satisfaction of the local partner, our results also show that the level of trust between partners is a significant factor explaining the level of satisfaction of the local partner.
