Business Science Institute (BSI), an international structure of higher education, has the purpose of developing the Executive DBA (Doctorate in Business Administration) at an international scale. A real network organization, the Business Science Institute’s Scientific Council has more than eighty professors authorized to supervise research, all hailing from leading universities and schools in Europe, West Africa, and North America. In December, the next cohort of doctoral candidates will begin in Luxembourg.

The BSI was created in response to an unmet demand for training. Managers holding an MBA or equivalent degree, have the ability to become creators of knowledge. Confronted with new complex situations requiring decision making on a daily basis, managers represent a real source of knowledge creation. It is from this observation that the BSI was born.

The Executive DBA is precisely designed for managers who are currently practicing. It enables them to pursue a doctoral thesis of high quality, under the supervision of a University Professor, based on the existing research in the field and on their knowledge of managerial practices, without ever losing sight of the regulatory requirements mandated by a highly valued faculty. The Executive DBA builds a different type of knowledge, allowing managers to conduct thorough research, and, incidentally, to differentiate themselves in a market in which holders of MBAs are numerous. It offers a pragmatic alternative to a university doctorate, more directly in tune with the issues organizations face today. The successful marriage of the best of both worlds...

Based on the success of the first group of candidates, which started in Luxembourg in 2014, the next cohort, ready to begin in December 2015 in Luxembourg, will bring together managers from all professional backgrounds. The courses will be conducted in English in order to meet the demand of international candidates. Five three-day seminars will bring together students between December 2015 and September 2016.

This will make the seminars in Luxembourg accessible to doctoral students from Belgium and Germany. The 2nd and 3rd academic years are focused on the definition of a thesis topic and thesis writing under the supervision of a University Professor (in Luxembourg, the BSI Scientific Council is composed of faculty members hailing from leading Belgian, Luxembourgish, French, British and Canadian institutions).

In a professional world where an MBA is no longer a means to differentiate candidates, and where a tradtional Doctorate is not accessible to managers who are employed, the Executive DBA of the Business Science Institute provides an ideal alternative. It gives managers the opportunity to conceptualize their experience and their knowledge, to step back and publish, and to become creators of knowledge in their on right.

Registration for courses in Luxembourg is now open.

The first six Doctors in Managerial Practice graduated in October.

In this context, the scarce resource is the professor. Doctoral programs are extremely time-consuming in terms of faculty resources, mainly because of the individual monitoring of the doctoral students. On top of this is the difficulty in the selection of thesis topics: "The strength of Business Science Institute is its pragmatic approach. Under a DBA, a doctoral student comes with his thesis, from the ground, explains Michel Kalika, member of the BSI Scientific Council. The theses developed in the framework of the Business Science Institute are distinguished by their confrontation of a body of knowledge collected through personal experience as managers, and those they found in theories of management science.“

Far from training PhDs disconnected from the field and disengaged from the true issues faced by organizations, far from endorsing doctoral theses that are of no "use" to businesses and do not respond to their challenges, the Business Science Institute reconciles the academic and professional worlds.

The Executive DBA allows managers in business to develop a doctoral dissertation of high quality under the supervision of a University Professor, based BOTH on the existing research in the field and on their knowledge of managerial practices, without ever losing sight of the regulatory requirements mandated by a highly valued faculty. The Executive DBA builds a different type of knowledge and enables managers to conduct a thorough research, also enabling them to differentiate themselves in a market with an abundance of MBAs.

The DBA offers a pragmatic alternative to the university doctorate, more directly in tune with the issues faced by organizations today. In other words, a successful marriage of the best of both worlds...

Business Science Institute, in cooperation with IAE LYON, University Jean Moulin, will welcome new doctoral students in Luxembourg starting December 2015 and in Dakar, in partnership with the CESAG, in January 2016.

WILTZ (Luxembourg) October 2015 - Business Science Institute is an international structure of higher education whose purpose of the development of the Executive DBA (Doctorate in Business Administration) at an international level. On Thursday, October 8th, six Executive Doctors were officially awarded their diplomas at the WILTZ CAMPUS, which became the international capital of the Executive DBA for a day. After the release of a collection of books published by Management and Society (EMS) targeting the managers and PhDs, during this day, the Business Science Institute gathered many doctorate-managers from Africa (Ivory Coast, Niger, Ghana, Tunisia, Mali, Senegal), Europe (Luxembourg, France, Belgium, Switzerland), and North America (Canada) as well as twenty instructors representing the more than 80 international members of its faculty.

Docteurs Executive DBA 2015

Six doctorate-managers form the first cohort. Their theses, the result of three years of work under the guidance of demanding thesis supervisors, deal with HR issues, information systems, strategic management... in the health sector, the public sector or in distribution. "As part of the DBA, the doctoral student comes WITH his/her thesis idea, from the field. We are convinced that managers, confronted on a daily basis with new and complex situations requiring decisions, are a true source of knowledge. Thus, the creation of knowledge, generally speaking, does not only emerge from an academic environment. The theses developed today in the context of the Business Science Institute are unique because they confront a body of knowledge created via personal experience to one found in the theories of management science.

For Bouacida Malik, a doctorate-manager, “the strength of Business Science Institute is in its pragmatic approach. The Executive DBA is fully in line with my career. I simultaneously address a problem taken directly from the field and pursue a research project directly applicable to the field, while respecting the academic requirement criteria of a thesis. Businesses in my sector or in other sectors are then free to adopt the solutions that I conceive. Isn’t the motto of the BSI to "turn your experience into knowledge ... and share it?"

Before the lecture held by Nicolas Buck, Vice-Chairman Fedil – Business Federation Luxembourg – on the topic of "entrepreneurship in the XXIst century", during which he discussed the importance of the development of entrepreneurship in Luxembourg, six Executive doctors defended their professional theses:
