Luc LABELLE

Luc Labelle holds a Master's of Science in Management (M.Sc.) from HEC, and is a recipient of a first Canadian award for the best business plan, 1996 recipient of the HEC Relève d'Excellence Award and, in 1999, he was named Professional of the Year in Economic Development (entrepreneurship).

He started in 2013 an executive doctorate in business administration with the Business Science Institute. Innovative in postgraduate training, the Business Science Institute allowed him to update his knowledge in management and to explore through his research new management ideas and practices. Thus he had the opportunity to elaborate a doctoral thesis based on a new theory proposed by the renowned professor Michael C. Jensen: the theory of integrity. He applied the filter of this ontological theory of integrity to his experience as a business leader to determine whether this theory opens up new perspectives in management.

He developed his thesis under the direction of Jean-Philippe Denis, professor of universities at the University of Paris Sud and editor of the Revue française de gestion.

[Does the new theory of integrity open up new perspectives in management?]

The new theory of integrity proposes a new paradigm of integrity based on ontology and phenomenology in which the individual, the leader, and the organization as a human entity, would have concrete access to a necessary condition to maximize the opportunity for performance: to honor one's word (word as the fundamental constituent of the human being). Using the prism of the theory of integrity, the author illustrates management situations experienced to see if this theory opens up new perspectives in management.

The theory of integrity is recent; the doctoral student thus traces the origins of this theory through the whole work of Professor Jensen of Harvard University and brings a managerial perspective on this new theory where the normative approach to integrity had shown its limits to the doctoral student.

The thesis concludes with a review of the research issues facing this theory, including its positive dimension, and concludes that the theory of integrity can provide useful and complementary insights into management. Calling for empirical studies of this theory in business, the author discusses the difficulty of isolating the variable "integrity" among the variables explaining the increased performance of firms, if any.
